Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to thrive.
We tend to associate thriving with everything going well. Success. Health. Growth. Happiness. A full calendar and exciting things ahead.
But life doesn’t work that way.
Sometimes you can be incredibly grateful for your life while carrying something heavy behind the scenes. You can be building, working, laughing, loving, and showing up while also walking through a season that is difficult and deeply personal.
Both can be true.
I’ve spent much of my life building businesses, pursuing science, traveling, raising a family, and trying to make a difference. I love what I do. But hard seasons have a way of bringing everything back into focus.
They remind you that time matters.
Family matters.
The ordinary moments matter.
A phone call. Dinner together. Sitting in the same room with someone you love. Saying the things you assume you'll have plenty of time to say later.
I’m also learning that balance doesn’t mean giving everything equal attention all the time. Sometimes work needs you. Sometimes your children need you. Sometimes your parents or your spouse need you. And sometimes you need to give yourself permission to simply be present.
Not every difficult chapter needs to be shared publicly, either. Some things are sacred. Some stories belong to the people living them.
Maybe thriving isn’t about having a life without hard seasons.
Maybe it’s being able to experience joy in the middle of them. To keep loving deeply. To remain grateful. To keep moving forward while also knowing when to slow down and hold the people you love a little closer.
Life can be beautiful and hard at the exact same time.
Right now, I’m choosing to appreciate both, and to never take the ordinary moments for granted.
