We Don’t Have an Information Problem. We Have an Implementation Problem

We are living in an extraordinary time.

We have more scientific research, health information, technology, and data available to us than at any other point in human history. Every day, new studies are published, new technologies emerge, and new discoveries change what we understand about the human body, our environment, and the world around us.

And yet, I often find myself asking the same question:

If we know so much, why aren’t we doing more with what we know?

I don’t believe we have an information problem.

I believe we have an implementation problem.

Discovery Is Only the Beginning

Scientific discovery is incredibly important. I have spent much of my career studying science, developing formulations, working with researchers, and exploring how emerging discoveries can be applied to real-world challenges.

But research sitting in a database does not change someone’s life.

A brilliant study that never leaves the laboratory cannot help the mother trying to make better choices for her family. A new technology that is too complicated or inaccessible cannot create meaningful change for the people who need it most.

Discovery has to become innovation.

Innovation has to become something usable.

And ultimately, that solution has to reach real people.

That final step is where I believe some of our greatest opportunities exist.

Where Science and Business Meet

This is one of the reasons I have spent my career working across both science and business.

For a long time, we have treated these as two very different worlds. Scientists discover. Entrepreneurs build. Businesses distribute.

But meaningful innovation rarely happens in isolation.

We need scientists who understand how discoveries can function outside of a laboratory. We need entrepreneurs who are willing to ask difficult scientific questions. We need businesses that recognize their responsibility extends beyond selling a product.

Most importantly, we need people who can connect these worlds.

Because having the answer is not enough if no one can access it.

Making Science Usable

I have always been interested in the question of why.

Why does something happen?

Why does the body respond a certain way?

Why are we exposed to certain environmental factors?

Why do some solutions work in theory but fail in everyday life?

But there is another question that matters just as much:

What are we going to do about it?

That is where implementation begins.

Whether we are talking about health, wellness, environmental sustainability, technology, agriculture, or consumer products, innovation should ultimately make people's lives better.

That means taking complicated ideas and making them understandable.

Taking research and making it applicable.

Taking innovation and making it accessible.

Science should not only live in laboratories, journals, conferences, and universities. It should become part of the solutions people can actually use.

Innovation Requires Action

We often celebrate ideas.

But ideas themselves do not create impact.

Implemented ideas do.

Some of the greatest challenges facing our world today are not necessarily the result of lacking knowledge. In many cases, we already understand a great deal about the problems in front of us.

The challenge is translating that knowledge into action at scale.

That requires collaboration between scientists, physicians, entrepreneurs, educators, policymakers, businesses, and communities.

It also requires us to become comfortable crossing traditional boundaries.

Throughout my career, I have learned that you cannot always stay in one lane if you want to solve a complicated problem. Sometimes science needs entrepreneurship. Sometimes business needs a deeper understanding of human health. Sometimes sustainability requires entirely new ways of designing products and systems.

Progress happens when we are willing to connect the dots.

From Information to Impact

I believe the next generation of innovation will not simply be defined by how much more information we discover.

It will be defined by how effectively we use the information we already have.

Can we turn research into solutions?

Can we make those solutions practical?

Can we make them accessible?

Can we educate people in a way that empowers rather than overwhelms them?

And can we build businesses and systems capable of bringing those solutions to millions of people?

Those are the questions that excite me.

Because discovery is only the beginning.

Implementation creates impact.

And at the end of the day, impact is what matters.

So I’ll leave you with a question I think every scientist, entrepreneur, leader, and innovator should consider:

What brilliant idea has the world already discovered, but failed to implement?
